Manchester's own Rock Star

From the LA mansion, Josh Logan speaks

What does it take to make a rock star is the question being put to the test by Manchester local Josh Logan.

Logan is one of the 15 musicians selected to take part in The Tommy Lee Project, Rockstar: Supernova. The show began airing on CBS just last week and will be on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. and Wednesday nights at 8 p.m.

The band Supernova, with drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), guitarist Gilby Clark (of Guns N Roses infamy) and bassist Jason Newsted (Metallica) will select one of the contestants at the season finale in September to be the lead singer with the band.

Logan is the only musician in the competition representing the New England area. Out of 25,000 entrants all trying to win a place on the Rockstar series, Logan made it through the masses to bring his musical ability to the furthest he has yet experienced.

"Originally I though it was like some type of American Idol contest but, after doing a little research, I knew it was something that I wanted to be involved in," Logan said.

It's been about three months since the auditions and the eliminations and now Logan finds himself staying in a mansion in Los Angeles and working harder than he would've imagined.

"It's been ridiculously hectic. We have our fun too but nothing that gets too out of control. It?s getting more and more hectic though as the days go on," Logan said.

Logan, a Manchester native, comes from a musical background and is a solo performer. He was featured in Hippo in fall 2003 in a story called "the hardest working musician in Manchester." Some of Logan's musical influences include Stevie Wonder, G Love and Special Sauce, Pearl Jam, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and many others.

"I like pretty much all genre's of music," Logan said.

Logan also plays the bass guitar as well as utilizing his singing skills, which he admits he picked up from singing karaoke. His mother was a karaoke DJ while he was growing up.

"This isn't karaoke though. This is for the real musicians and that's why I'm here. We're all here to win the game. It's just a matter of time before the clock runs out," Logan said.

Logan was only able to speak about certain issues on the show and its production. Nor was he allowed to hear about what's been airing to the public.

Logan is learning that it takes a lot to be a rock star a lot of practice, a lot of failure and the occasional early-morning wake-up call for an interview with the local paper back at home. "To Manchester, thanks for the support over the years and make sure you vote for me," Logan said.



Bright Star Rising

Josh Logan, 26, was a big fish in a small pond, playing for adoring crowds at Manchester's Black Brimmer and getting airplay and attention in the local media. Then he got "discovered" by scouts from CBS' reality show "Rockstar: Supernova," and, just like that, his charming mug and soulful style lit up millions of TV screens. His star was still on the rise when he was rudely (and unfairly, moaned his fans) voted off in the first few weeks. Since then he's all but disappeared, cooling his heels while planning his re-emergence.

"It's a very difficult task for one dude, going from a normal life into the rock and roll reality and then back to normal," says Logan. "I know I've got the talent and I'm capable of taking it to the level of stardom, but until that happens I'll just keep on doing what I do." So is his career a fireworks show or a bottle rocket? That remains to be seen, but either way his fans, now in the millions, will be watching.

Down-home Rock Star: Josh Logan (www.joshloganmusic.com) was already famous on his home turf when he was plucked by the starmakers to appear on the rock ‘n' roll reality show "Rockstar Supernova." He got voted off, but gained millions of fans during that run. Josh is young but wise enough to know that fame is fleeting and fans can be fickle. He took some months off to get his bearings and now he's making his move with a tight band, a sharp look and that same sweet sound of soul-influenced rock. He's got the sound and the moves. All he needs is another break.
